I. INTRODUCTORY NOTE

Lorenzo Domínguez (Santiago, Chile, 1901-Mendoza, Argentina, 1963) was a versatile artist. He produced around two hundred and fifty sculptures in stone, bronze, wood, ceramics, cement and plaster, as well as around thirty embossed metal plates. He completed almost five hundred drawings.

The authors of this catalog are: Federica Domínguez Colavita, Alberto Colavita and Clara Digiovanni de Domínguez. Most of the artist's works were photographed by Paula and Cintia Colavita. Paula Colavita photographed most of the sculptures located at the artist's home, as well as the drawings from the Via Crucis of Don Quixote, the Religious Themes and the Mythology of Chile series. Cintia Colavita photographed the eleven series of drawings from Easter Island; the series of nudes; and most of the portraits, maternities and "assorted themes" series. Lorenzo Domínguez Digiovanni photographed most of the monuments, several sculptures in Chile, and numerous bronzes and embossed metal plates. Fernán Domínguez photographed some works in private homes and, with Diego and Nicolás Domínguez, reviewed the initial English versions of this catalog. Nicolás Domínguez designed the CD-ROM cover. Alberto Colavita, besides his classifying work, performed the required programming and HTML design.

The whole catalog is bilingual and can be read both in Spanish and in English. In some sections, every title and paragraph in Spanish is immediately followed by the corresponding English translation: "Índice Analítico / Table of Contents", "Monumentos / Monuments", "Piedras / Stones", "Bronces / Bronzes", "Maderas / Woods", "Cerámicas / Ceramics", "Cementos / Cements", "Yesos / Plasters", "Planchas de Metal Batido / Embossed Metal Plates", each one of the twenty-three series of drawings, "Obras Identificadas después de 1998 / Works Identified after 1998", "Bibliografía Seleccionada / Selected Bibliography", "Abreviaturas / Abbreviations" and "Autores de las Fotografías / Photograph Credits". In other sections, separate Spanish and English versions can be called by clicking on different hypertext links: "Nota Introductoria" or "Introductory Note", "Vida" or "Life", "Obra" or "Work", "Índice de Títulos de Obras" or "Index of Works by Title" and "Agradecimientos" or "Acknowledgments".

The "Table of Contents" has links to all the sections listed in the previous paragraph. The items in sections "IV.A. Esculturas (Sculptures)", "IV.B. Planchas de Metal Batido (Embossed Metal Plates) and "IV.C. Dibujos (Drawings)" have links to the first pages of each of the thirty-one series created for the categorization of the almost eight hundred works of this catalog. In a given page within a series, up to four works are displayed with a thumbnail and a caption. This caption, in Spanish and English, includes the catalog code number, title, place and date of origin, and a brief description of the work. In most cases, materials and dimensions are given, with height and width specified in this order. Finally, there is a reference to the work's current location.

When one clicks on a thumbnail, a full-size picture of the work is displayed. Then, it is possible to return to the series page by clicking on the "Back" link-button of the browser.

At the end of each page it is possible to choose whether to go back to the "Table of Contents", by clicking on "INDEX"; or whether to call other pages of the series, by clicking on the corresponding number (1, 2, 3, etc).

In the "Index of Works by Title", each work is listed with a reference to the series to which it belongs. The work titles are hypertext links to the corresponding full-size pictures.
